Since 2000, I’ve been an attorney in the state of Washington, gaining diverse experience working in sectors including technology, taxation, food and beverage, and agriculture.
For eight of those years, I served as in-house counsel for large corporations (Darigold, Green Giant and Tree Top) and I became closely involved with a wide range of corporate legal issues. Because of this, I was able to gain legal experience in a number of areas—ones that external counsel will probably never deal with.
As an in-house attorney, it took me a few years to fully understand how best to serve the business that I worked for; to understand exactly what they need. I’ve seen many attorneys who lack this in-house experience struggle with how best to serve their business clients, because they simply have never received the type of feedback and hands-on experience that I gained in-house.
The fact that I worked for very large corporations is also extremely helpful. The larger the company is, the more legal issues they have, and many of these issues can be far more complex than those of a smaller company.
Optimum results for my business clients comes through understanding what businesses really need, and how they need it provided to them. My familiarity with so many different business law topics means I know how to ask the important questions and get to the core of my client’s legal needs. It also increases my value and ultimately saves money for my business clients.
